Mani-Monday: No Room for the Blues!

God. I love names of OPI nail lacquers -- almost always punny!

I've purchased this from the markets (haul is yet to be posted, but will come soon... hopefully) for $5! It was labelled NEW, but I could careless whether it's new or used. I just want it!



I don't have any blue nail polishes by OPI in my collection, so No Room for the Blues ($20.00) is the very first. Welcome to my stash you bright, babe'n blue!

This is probably my second brightest blue after Illamasqua's Serenity, but it's still quite bright on the nails. Reminds me a lot of Sally Hansen's Blue Me Away at first swatch. Will have to dig that one out to whip up a comparison some time!

Smooth, creamy formula as most OPI's are.

Are there room for the blues in YOUR nail stash?

I always welcome blues into my collection, but I don't usually wear blues this bright. Still worth having in the collection, but I'll stick to dark to deep, royal blues!

Mani-Monday: Date in the Moonlight

If you follow me on Insta, you would've known that I've spring-cleaned my nail stash. A total count of 286 nail polishes (yes, I am a freak).

So I've picked out three full (and big) jars of lacquers and placed them by the side of my bed, swearing to wear one every week so I can blog about them, then pass them onto friends.


Date In The Moonlight by essence ($3.25) was my third pick out of the jar.

Doesn't look too interesting in the bottle, eh? Looks dull and boring.

Very beautiful dark navy blue though, with slight blue shimmers. A bit hard to see the shimmers if you're not close up, but I still really like it! Will keep this one back in my collection. I can definitely see myself wearing it again sometime in the colder months (trying to be all season-trendy n' shiz = me).

Formula was smooth and pigmented. I've always loved essence's big, fat, rounded-tip brushes too. Offers a really quick and precise application for my big nails, the rounded corner hugs my cuticles P-E-R-F-E-C-T-L-Y! Peeps with smaller nails will hate these brushes though..

Mani-Monday: Sweetpea

Yay! Another Mani-Monday post.

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend! I've recently finished my exams, so hopefully I'd be able to make use of the time I have [wisely].

Haven't decided what to do yet, but here's another Australis polish that needs to go, hence a quick swatch before I pass it on to friends/family!


Australis' Sweetpea ($7.95), a bright mint green.

Yeap. Unlike other duller mint greens in my collection, this one is quite bright on my nails. Very pretty. It was a tad streaky at first, but took 3 coats to even out. Pretty average!

Although it's the only brighter-mint in my collection, I'd have to let it go. I just don't see myself wearing this too much in the future, so I'm sure one of my friends will help me make use of it!

It's also one of the better greens, so I'd like them to have it, rather than let it sit and rot in my collection..

Mani-Monday: Peek-A-Boo!

In midst of clearing out my nail collection (I have way too many nail polishes), so I thought I'd start a Mani-Monday series to brighten up everyone's Mondays.

Lucky me, life of a jobless uni student, so every Monday is already brightened. Don't jelly arh!

My first brand to clear out is.. Australis!

Peek-a-boo ($7.95),a creme lilac that goes on smooth and silky. I don't quite like these lilac colours so this one will definitely have to go to a friend, or my Mum's collection. She loves these light purples.

A quick snap of this other polish too. It's labelled "Aqua", but it's definitely the wrong label. It is most likely discontinued though, since I couldn't find it on their site.

Just a metallic blue. Probably will find them in those $3 Australis clearance bins. Worth getting though! Lovely formula, lovely shade with lovely pigmentation.

Mani-Monday: Bubble Naut

It's been a long time since I've featured Smudged. I've previously featured their Morbid, which is a really lovely shade, but the formula was.. ehhh. Reason why I haven't picked at their other shades in my collection.

I think my sister won Bubble Naut ($6.00) from their Instagram giveaway.

I think the grey-toned blue of this polish is beautiful (reminds me a lot of the sky of a gloomy, rainy day)! It's unique, different from what we have across the mainstream brands, one reason why indie-brands are worth looking in to.

My main concern with Smudged has always been their formula. If they're not gloopy and thick, then the glitter pieces just don't show up like what it looks like in their nail swatches.

Would've look slightly better if I've used a topcoat!

Thankfully, Bubble Naut had a much thinner consistency [however not sheer], and so was much easier to apply. Looks nothing like the swatch photo they provide doe..

Not sure if photo is amped up 200%, or my nail-polish application skills are just shit. I guess the good news to share is that I'm not a professional nail blogger!!! Hahaha. Or else I'd ruin every brand's lacquer! （≧▼≦；)

Mani-Monday: Perfect festive red!

These limited edition beauties landed on my desk not too long ago, by.. YES! You know who!

These aren't new, but since they're limited edition, I thought I may as well put up their posts ASAP before they slip off the shelves!

We'll start with this beautiful, metallic, festive red, Red Hot Chilli Pepper ($4.95).

The formula of this one (the only of the three that I've tried so far), is... breath-taking! I was so stunned with the first coat I applied, just because it's so ridiculously pigmented, smooth and silky! I could really get away with one coat, but it looked too flat in the image, so I had to chuck on another coat.

This reminds me a lot of Face Of Australia's Flaming Lava that I posted about a few Xmas' ago, but brighter.

Anyways, what do ya think? Pretty? 

I think red, gold, silver and coppers are the ONLY shade I'd wear with a metallic finish. I'd pass on other metallics, especially pinks! I really dislike metallic pinks!

Face Of Australia Dark Side Collection: Magneto

Ooooooooh-kay.... Has no idea who Magneto is (I know it's wrong, but I won't lie!), so we shall jump straight into swatches.

Magneto is the ONLY duo-chromatic/metallic of the 8 shades in the collection. It's strange and different, but also exciting at the same time. Although it's a duo-chrome, it doesn't have a dark-base like the other seven -- a fresh breath from the darks, especially for those who are not a fan of darker shades.

Main silver base which reflects purple-y and slightly green. I really don't know how to describe duo-chromes, so hopefully these swatches will do! :P

The swatches above are of Magneto alone on the nails. On Face Of Australia's blog, I saw that Michelle [of Cosmetic Cupcake] layered this over Maleficent which gave it a totally different look. A bit more oomph which doesn't look bad at all. I would've never thought of the idea of layering this over another lacquer, so I thought it was quite funky! Here are the swatches of her layered manicure...

Overall, not a bad shade/finish. It's not my favourite to wear though. On others, possibly. On myself, I feel like it doesn't suit my skintone very well. Somewhat mismatched, but I love how much more glossier it looks with this finish, and how it elongates my nails!

On a slightly more negative note, the brush.... Grrr. In my [previous] feature of Ursula (another shade of this collection), I've mentioned that the brush had a slight curve, which made the application somewhat more challenging. Well, I thought that was a dud, but it's may not be so.

An anonymous reader (thanks you anonymous patootie!) commented that she also had the same problem.... on six shades of the eight that she had purchased. This is my 4th shade so far to feature, hopefully the remaining four to swatch won't have problematic brushes... -_-

Face Of Australia Dark Side Collection: Jarfar

Oops! This post was NOT suppose to be published a day late, but I eventually got carried away after I finished editing these photos... o_o"

If this collection released a year earlier, I would be all over Jarfar. Last year, I was all over dark-vampy nails, especially dark burgundy reds! Very unusual of me, but yes!

Unlike my previous post which featured Ursula, I have zero problems with Jarfar's brush. However, the colour was a tad harder to work with.

On first coat, it was quite sheer, so I needed a total of 3 coats for a full opaque finish. 

Whilst the formula was smooth just like the previous two, I felt like this particular shade applied to be a bit blotchy and uneven. I THINK it may be the colour that caused the problem, rather than the formula since I've tried plenty of other dark-reds and they've behaved in a very similar way

Oh, have I ever mentioned to you about how glossy they are without top coat?? For all three posts so far, all photos were taken without top coat! Sooo glossy right?


Somewhat off-topic: I had no idea who Jarfar was until I google'd!!! Ahhhhhh, the dude from Aladdin. Grrr, I don't watch half of the movies these villains are featured in! Yes, I have no childhood. And yes, you can expect these mini-rants for the next fewer posts. But no, you may not call me silly!!!
