MAC Mineralize Moisture SPF15 Foundation review

MAC finally launched new foundation in the beginning of 2013. I was so excited to see them offering new liquid foundation meant for dry skin and with a satin/glowy finish. The old mineral liquid foundation I did not like at all - but I only had small sample and that was my first impression. I felt that they need major improvement in the formula, that the old one was just outdated.

I am not big on the whole mineral stuff in makeup. Honestly I do not care about it nor I think it really does much for skin. Some women actually have a lot of issues with mineral makeup causing irritation. The only to mineral product that I ever wore are Mineralize moisture foundation and also from MAC Mineralized skinfinish natural. Love these two as a combo!

Product comes in a glass bottle that's pretty heavy. Glass is thick and not so travel/makeup bag/purse friendly. Yes it looks nicer than a cheap plastic bottle but I am always afraid I will drop it. Other MAC foundations like Studio fix fluid and Prolongwear are also in a glass bottles but the glass is thinner and bottles are much lighter. I love that it already has pump that you can lock. Wonderful! MAC made the same thing with Prolongwear foundation and I am hoping they will change Studio fix fluid packaging and make the same thing. Who wants to buy pump separately?

The color I picked is my usual when it comes to MAC -NC20. It is the least yellow among all the MAC foundations. I do not mind yellow at all actually I prefer it. Anything neutral turns pinkish on me. So if you have problem with MAC foundations being too yellow this might be a good choice.

Texture is very creamy, medium in thickness. Blends easily and I find that it looks equally good being applied with just fingers or with the foundation brush (I was using MAC 190). Also I realized it goes on much nicer and looks nice without applying foundation primer before (one with silicone). So, it makes easy to use foundation - no need of a primer (still will look good) and no need for a brush.

Coverage is medium. Very nice decent medium. It covers all imperfection except really heavy ones - like red spot from previous acne. It does neutralize it but does not cover it completely. I do not add concealer just dab a little bit more of a foundation on that spot. It feels lightweight on skin and helps with dryness in a way that when I apply it it does not make my skin feel tight nor it enhances dry areas.

What I do not like is that it enhances my pores, it enhances them terribly. It setltles in them no matter how much I blend. That's pretty disappointing. So what I do is I use Mineralized skinfisnih natural on top and that fixes the issue. Actually I do not think this Mineralized moisture can be used on it's own. The finish is so "wet" and so glowy that it really needs something on top to set it. I love foundations that are not matte, that give more of a natural healthy glow with a satin finish but this one as well as YSL touche eclat foundation are so wet and never set on their on and need some help on top in a form of any kind of powder. It doesn't have to be MSFN. In the photos below I actually used MAC Careblend pressed powder. But I like how MSFN looks better.

Staying power is decent. As I said many times before I never have problem with products fading or sliding of my face. But Mineralize moisture does intend to fade if it's really hot and humid, if you sweat or probably have some oil on your skin. With powder on top it's good for about 6 hours before it's start fading. Without it, you can see it gone and more settled into pores after 3 hours (at least in warm and humid climate).

I think this would work better as a winter foundation for normal/dry skin. That's when I am planning on using it more.

Now let's talk about ingredients! Just kidding I do not really pay attention to them or really know much about it BUT what really bothers me is that list of used ingredients becomes longer and longer and now one side of the box is not even enough to list them all so you will notice it continues on the other side! Not just with this product, I keep seeing this more often with the new products on the market. I am not liking it.

This is the most expensive MAC foundation being priced at 34$ plus tax it gets you to around 37$. In my mind MAC foundations are usually priced around 26-28$ and not more than 30$ with a tax. MAC constantly keeps raising their prices.

Since the news broke out about new Touch eclat foundation I have been so excited to try it! I absolutely adore any idea about foundation that gives glowy, healthy looking skin. Dewy skin has been a trend lately and many brands come out with a foundation with that kind of a finish. Or at least they claim it's glowy dewy illuminating hydrating etc...

I previously wrote about my HG foundation - Lancome Teint Miracle that really does look miraculous on skin while giving healthy glow. Other foundations that claim the same like Guerlain Parure de lumiere and Dior Nude pretty much it's all they do - but fail in giving that kind of finish.

So, I was very curious to see how YSL touche eclat will perform.

YSL Touche eclat comes in a heavy glass rounded bottle with golden top. YSL is all about golden! :) It does look luxurious though.

It has very wide range color with 17 shades.

Shades are separated in three groups:

Beige -beige neutral undertones

Beige Dore -golden beige undertones

Beige rose - rosy beige undertones

Since I like my foundation slightly on yellowish/golden side I picked Beige dore 10. It blends in perfectly. I also wanted to try just a shade darker and was confused to see there is no Beige dore 20 or 30 ?? Next darker one is Beige 30 - it is just slightly darker but more neutral. It looked good too, but slightly darker than my winter super pale skin :) It would work for summer.

Texture is very lightweight, thin and blends easily. Compared to Dior Nude, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, Lancome teint miracle, Guerlain Parure de lumiere it is much thinner and gives less coverage.

Among all of these foundations mentioned above it gives the most illuminating finish. It is really glowy! I think it would work perfectly for dry, dull skin with uneven tone.

YSL claims it has buildable coverage but honestly I have not tried to build it. I just used one, maybe one and a half pumps for the whole face and sticked to light to medium coverage.

Also I used it without foundation primer and had no problem with staying power.

This foundation will not work for anyone who has combo/oily skin, prefers matte finish and needs more coverage than light/medium.

Le Teint Touche eclat has soft floral scent. Did not irritate my skin at all. Again there is SPF19 - that's my only complaint - since it's such a low SPF they could have easily made foundation without it - would not make any difference.

I wanted to show you how it looks on the skin. In this photo you can see the difference in finish when foundation is without setting powder (on left) - it has illuminating finish. On the right I applied MAC prep+prime setting powder on top (one of my favorites).

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation review, photos and swatches

I have tried Vitalumiere Aqua when it was first launched about two years ago. I got generous sample and remember at that time I simply hated it. I was looking for lightweight foundation and at the time couple of cosmetic companies came out with this lightweight liquid formula. Vitalumiere aqua did not cover well at all, did not blend nicely, it looked patchy after couple of hours with foundation just disappearing from certain parts of my face. Also the worst part - it enhanced my dryness pretty bad. So I gave up and never bough it... well until recently.

I was curious to try it again and got sample to try it. And surprise - I really liked it!! I have no idea what changed - my skin definitely did not - it's still dry during winter. Maybe my application? Or use of a hydrating primer underneath? Anyway I am so glad this foundation works for me. I will not use it much during winter because I need something creamier and thicker but for spring time this will be perfect!

Texture is lightweight and blends easily. I realized that best way to apply and blend it is with fingers. It gives the most natural look. Very important thing is to shake bottle really good before applying the foundation!!

It has floral scent that evaporates soon after application.

I have not had any problems while wearing it meaning I had no brakeouts, clogged pores etc...

I was asked to compare this foundation to Lancome teint miracle. They are different. Teint miracle has creamier consistency gives more coverage and has luminous/glowy finish. Vitalumiere aqua gives light to medium coverage - it's buildable and finish is without any glow, it's simply natural satin finish.

I can see Vitalumiere aqua working the best for normal skin possibly combination with setting powder on top. For someone who wants light to medium coverage and wants easy simple application. This is "I have no time in the morning" makeup solution.

I think color range is decent too. Chanel expanded it finally and added some lighter colors. Beige 10 would be my perfect winter match but since I planned on using it during spring/summer time I went with Beige 20 that's slightly darker than my skin.

I have tried Vitalumiere foundation too last year and compared to Aqua it's much more hydrating (I am trying not to use word oily but that's how it felt and looked on my skin).

When using primer I have no problem with Aqua' staying power.

It contains SPF15 but honestly in many countries that's not even considered SPF any more and cosmetic companies are not allowed to list that on packaging.

Vitalumiere Aqua comes in a thin square plastic squeeze out tube. It looks really small but it has usual amount of foundation 1 oz / 30ml. Bottle is very carry around and travel friendly.

Dior Diorskin Nude natural glow hydrating makeup

This is very important when picking a color:

The system of numbers starts with #010 and goesup to #070. #010 is the lightest, and it is neutral (no yellow, pink, or peach undertones). All numbers ending in a zero reflect neutral undertones. All numbers ending with a one (like #021) reflect shades with yellow undertones (warm/olive toned). All numbers ending with a two (like #022) reflect shades with pink undertones (cool toned). All numbers ending with a three (like #023) reflect shades with peach undertones (warm/not olive).

I purchased this foundation back in 2010. At the time lightest yellow toned shade was 021 linen. Slightly darker than my skin but could work as a summer color if I ever get any tan :)

What drown me to this foundation is promise of natural looking, hydrated and glowy skin. I do agree that Nude really looks natural on skin. Gives medium coverage but can be built to full. Does not accentuate pores or lines.

When it comes to hydrating part unfortunately it does not give any hydration to my skin. It actually accentuates my dry spot. I think this foundation would be amazing for normal and combination skin. For dry skin it would work for summer time or with some heavy hydrating cream and primer underneath.

I can't wear it during the winter when it's super cold and windy and heating is constantly on and drying the air and my skin out.

Dior claims it has glowy finish and I would have to disagree. Finish is natural, not glowy, not matte but more of a satin. Great for someone who does not want dewy finish that Lancome Teint miracle or YSL Touch eclat offer but does not want something flat either (Chanel perfection lumiere).

I would say Dior Nude and Guerlain Parure de lumiere have pretty similar finish but Dior gives more coverage.

Texture is not too thin, just creamy enough and blends easily. One pump is enough for lighter coverage. I usually do one and a half pumps. Two is way too much and I am left with extra product that's a waste.

Wear time is excellent. I have no problem with foundation disappearing or rubbing off.

It comes in a luxurious glass bottle with a pump. Not too travel or purse friendly but at least it's not cheap looking plastic bottle with no pump.

I do like Nude better than Diorskin forever which I think would work better for combination/oily skin.

Recently Dior revamped their whole foundation line. They also changed a name and now it's called Dior Diorskin Nude skin- glowing makeup. I guess they stick with glow but ditched hydrating part since there is no hydration from this foundation anyway :)

What made me so happy after this is that lighter yellow toned shade in 011 was finally available in the US! I ordered it right away. Colors was absolutely perfect but my problem was that I bought it in winter time and formula just did not work for me - my skin was tight, dry areas accentuated so I returned it. I guess I will wait for spring/summer and slightly warmer weather and use my 021.

Very important is that formula did not change at all.
