Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer review

What it is:

A hydrating foundation primer that leaves an immediate cooling, refreshing sensation on the skin.

What it does:

It contains Hydraplex12 extract derived from desert plants, which allows the primer to immediately quench parched skin and seal in moisture for hours with a protective barrier that fills in fine lines and pores.

Smashox hydrating primer has been my favorite for a while now. I was introduced to Smashbox photo finish primer 4 years ago. Original one I was not crazy about - it had such a silicon overload that you could feel it thick and "slippery" under the fingers. Although because of it's texture it really did make a difference in skin that was uneven in tone and texture. Photo finish hydrating primer has completely different consistency. It is super light gel like formula. When applied on skin it feels like a drop of fresh water. It is so lightweight and blends in super easily. Also has refreshing and cooling effects on skin. No heavy silicon feeling. Great choice for normal an dry skin but also for someone who does not like layering moisturizer, primer... This does not add any heaviness on your. It's just refreshes and gives nice glow. Although after couple of minutes when it dries completely it has satin finish, very natural.

I have tried it with many different liquid foundations as well as powder foundation and works great with all of them. Many women have concerns like "Will my Dior foundation work with NARS blush and Smashbox primer?" . It sure will. Don't be afraid to mix brands. Every brand has something that's good and something that's extra ordinary. Play with products and try to find what's best for your needs. No need to stick with only one brand.

I am currently on my second tube of Hydrating primer and one of the surprising things is how long it actually lasts. I was thinking that since it has such a light watery consistency it will be gone in no time - well I was wrong. For the whole face I need just a drop - I would say green pea size. I know it seems little but when I start blending it covers the whole face without a problem.

Color of the primer in the tube and right when it comes out is light blue. No worries ladies - it blends completely clear on skin.

This primer is also oil free. Good to see since most of the products for dry skin are not oil free. So this can be good choice also for someone who has combination skin with some dehydrated areas, or someone with acne who is using a lot of aggressive products and has skin that's dried out and flaky.

I was so glad seeing Smashbox expand their line of primers. After all they have been primer authority for a while now in the cosmetic industry. Another one that I like from their line is Light oil free primer.
